Subject: Attn: Christopher Werth & Editors Re Article: Software Crackdown

To Whom It May Concern:

This e-mail is in regards to the following article on your website: http://www.newsweek.com/id/208652 The article contains numerous technical mistakes which reveal a distinct lack of understanding over the technical issues involved in the software vulnerability the article covers. The most egregious of these is the misuse of the term "zero day" which the author has apparently misunderstood to be the name of a particular exploit when it is in fact a categorization that simply refers to any exploit for an unpatched vulnerability.

A 5 point criticism of the article is posted at a blog entry available here: http://djcapelis.livejournal.com/120717.html

The critique is intermixed with a bunch more content bemoaning the state of the newspaper industry and the lax editorial standards that allow things like this to be published. The part most relevant to you are the two numbered lists. The first pulls a series of quotations from the article which are inaccurate or misleading, the second provides explanation.

As someone who used to enjoy news publications, I would love to see you correct these mistakes and work to raise the quality of articles like this in the future.

Sincerely,
~D.J. Capelis
